== Personal life == Vaghela was born to Laxmansinh and Nathuba on 21 July 1940 in Vasan in Gandhinagar district, in Gujarat. He completed Master of Arts in economics from Gujarat University. Vaghela married Gulab Ba on 9 June 1960, with whom he has three sons. His son Mahendrasinh was MLA from Bayad from 2012 to 2017.
== Research == It is under development by Cara Therapeutics as an intravenous agent for the treatment of postoperative pain. An oral formulation has also been developed. Due to its peripheral selectivity, difelikefalin lacks the central side effects like sedation, dysphoria, and hallucinations of previous KOR-acting analgesics such as pentazocine and phenazocine. In addition to use as an analgesic, difelikefalin is also being investigated for the treatment of pruritus (itching). Difelikefalin has completed phase II clinical trials for postoperative pain and has demonstrated significant and "robust" clinical efficacy, along with being safe and well tolerated. It has also completed a phase III clinical trial for uremic pruritus in hemodialysis patients.

In 2006 and 2007, a series of studies provided arguably the first documented examples of de novo gene birth that did not involve overprinting. These studies were conducted using the accessory gland transcriptomes of Drosophila yakuba and Drosophila erecta and they identified 20 putative lineage-restricted genes that appeared unlikely to have resulted from gene duplication. Levine and colleagues identified and confirmed five de novo candidate genes specific to Drosophila melanogaster and/or the closely related Drosophila simulans through a rigorous approach that combined bioinformatic and experimental techniques. Since these initial studies, many groups have identified specific cases of de novo gene birth events in diverse organisms. The first de novo gene identified in yeast, BSC4 gene was identified in S. cerevisiae in 2008. This gene shows evidence of purifying selection, is expressed at both the mRNA and protein levels, and when deleted is synthetically lethal with two other yeast genes, all of which indicate a functional role for the BSC4 gene product. Historically, one argument against the notion of widespread de novo gene birth is the evolved complexity of protein folding. Interestingly, Bsc4 was later shown to adopt a partially folded state that combines properties of native and non-native protein folding. In plants, the first de novo gene to be functionally characterized was QQS, an Arabidopsis thaliana gene identified in 2009 that regulates carbon and nitrogen metabolism.
The human body's immune response to a surgically-implanted foreign object (prosthetic breast, cardiac pacemaker, orthopedic prosthesis) is to biologically isolate the foreign object with a capsule of tightly-woven collagen fibres. Afterwards, the capsular contracture occurs over time when the thickened, collagen-fibre capsule has compressed inwards, against the breast-implant with great mechanical pressure that deforms and breaks the implant, and so disfigures the breast; the causes of capsular contracture include bacterial contamination, shell-rupture of the medical device, leakage of the prosthetic filler-material, and hematoma. The prosthetic-breast implantation surgeries that have a low-rate of capsular contractures include surgical approaches that feature the submuscular emplacement of the breast-implant and the use of breast implants with a textured surface; limited handling of the breast implants before the surgery, limited contact with and handling of the skin of the implant-pocket, and irrigation of the surgical site with antibiotic solutions. To correct a capsular contraction, the plastic surgeon realises an open capsulotomy procedure to loosen and release the collagen-fibre capsule from the implant-pocket, for removal and replacement with a new model of prosthetic breast. Moreover, non-surgical therapies for treating collagen-fibre capsules include massage, external ultrasonic therapy, pharmaceutic therapy with leukotriene pathway inhibitor medications, and Diapulse therapy (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy, PEMFT).
== History == The word "cachexia" is derived from the Greek words kakos 'bad' and hexis 'condition'. English ophthalmologist John Zachariah Laurence was the first to use the phrase "cancerous cachexia", doing so in 1858. He applied the phrase to the chronic wasting associated with malignancy. It was not until 2011 that the term "cancer-associated cachexia" was given a formal definition, with a publication by Kenneth Fearon. Fearon defined it as "a multifactorial syndrome characterized by ongoing loss of skeletal muscle (with or without loss of fat mass) that cannot be fully reversed by conventional nutritional support and leads to progressive functional impairment".
